Institute of Earth Sciences (ICT)

The Department’s academic staff, together with postgraduate students and research fellows (master’s, doctoral and postdoctoral), carry out their research within the Institute of Earth Sciences (ICT), a research unit funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).

ICT was established in 2014 through the merger of three research centres at the universities of Évora, Minho and Porto. Its mission is to advance the frontiers of geosciences knowledge, deepening the understanding of Earth’s processes, environment and resources, in order to contribute to a resilient and sustainable future. For 2025–2029, ICT has set four objectives: cutting-edge research, international collaboration, capacity building and training, and publication and dissemination.

The Earth Sciences Centre is the research sub-unit of the School of Sciences of the University of Minho associated with ICT, and hosts ICT’s University of Minho branch. Director of the Centre and coordinator of the University of Minho branch: Margarida Antunes.

The ICT scientific initiatives in which the Department takes part are gathered under Science and Society. The branch’s researchers and PhD students are listed under Research Staff and PhD Students.
