Summary
Amélia Paula Marinho Reis is an Assistant Professor with Habilitation at the Department of Earth Sciences, where she has taught since 2018, and a researcher at the Institute of Earth Sciences (ICT). She graduated in Geological Engineering (1990) and received her PhD in Geosciences (1997) from the University of Aveiro, and obtained her Habilitation in Geology from the University of Minho in 2025.
She was a postdoctoral researcher at Instituto Superior Técnico (1998–2006) and at the University of Aveiro, where she built a research group in medical geology between 2008 and 2012. Her work covers environmental geochemistry and medical geology: the bioavailability of metals in soils and dust, human exposure assessment, and the mineralogy and environmental impact of mine waste.
She was a member of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) working group that prepared Monograph 131, on cobalt, antimony compounds and weapons-grade tungsten alloy (2021–2022), and is an associate editor of Environmental Geochemistry and Health. She directs the BSc in Environmental Sciences and Global Sustainability.
