Ana Barroso

Summary

Ana Barroso has been an integrated member of the Institute of Earth Sciences (ICT) since 2026 and was an Invited Teaching Assistant at the Department of Earth Sciences (2024–2026). She graduated in Geology (2017) and completed an MSc in Geosciences, specialising in Environment and Planning (2019), at the University of Coimbra, with a dissertation on atmospheric particles in the Aljustrel mining region. She received her PhD in Geology from the University of Minho in 2026, as an FCT fellow, with a thesis on the geochemical and mineralogical controls on the evolution and recovery of systems degraded by mining.

Her research covers mining contamination and acid drainage, the mineralogy of mine waste and secondary salts, the monitoring of abandoned mining areas with drone photogrammetry and geospatial analysis, and atmospheric aerosols.

She was a visiting researcher at CRETUS, University of Santiago de Compostela (2022–2023), and at CEREGE, France (2024).
