Marcelo Godinho da Silva

Summary

Marcelo Godinho da Silva is a PhD student in Earth and Space Sciences, in the field of Geological Processes, at the University of Évora, where he enrolled in 2020/2021, and has been a member of the Institute of Earth Sciences (ICT) since 2020. He is supervised by Pedro Nogueira (University of Évora) and co-supervised by Mário Abel Gonçalves (University of Lisbon) and Renato Henriques (University of Minho).

His thesis, «Satellites and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles working together in the study of degraded areas», combines multispectral and hyperspectral satellite and drone imagery, field spectroradiometry, portable X-ray fluorescence and machine learning to detect soil contamination and alteration zones in mining areas, such as Trimpancho in the Iberian Pyrite Belt and the Mociços mine, in connection with the GeoMinA project.

He graduated in Geology (2015) and completed an MSc in Economic Geology (2017) at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, with a dissertation on the metallogenic potential of the gold mineralisations of the Vila Verde–Ponte da Barca belt. He was a research fellow in the MOPREVIS project, on modelling road accidents in the Setúbal district with geographic information systems.
