Summary

Isabel Margarida Antunes is an Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Department of Earth Sciences, director of the Earth Sciences Centre of the University of Minho and coordinator of the University of Minho branch of the Institute of Earth Sciences (ICT). She graduated in Geology from the University of Lisbon (1993), completed an MSc in Geosciences (2000) and a PhD in Geology (2006) at the University of Coimbra, and obtained her Habilitation in Geology from the University of Minho in 2024.

She taught at the School of Agriculture of the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco until 2016, when she joined the Department. Her research covers environmental geochemistry, water resources management and urban hydrogeology, soil and water contamination by mining, particularly by uranium and other potentially toxic elements, vulnerability and risk mapping, geothermal energy, and the geochemistry of granitic rocks and their associated mineralisations.

She directs the MSc in Environmental Sustainability, Technologies and Energy and takes part in several national and international research projects and networks.
