Summary
Óscar Filipe André da Silva Costa has been a student in the University of Minho PhD Programme in Geology – Geoconservation, Environmental Geology and Geological Resources since 2023, supervised by Amélia Paula Marinho Reis, with an FCT doctoral grant that started in October 2023.
His thesis, «Developing a 3D Web-GIS Mapping Platform to Support the Seismic Vulnerability Assessment of Urban Areas», builds a 3D web mapping platform to support the seismic vulnerability assessment of urban areas, with Lisbon as the case study. It combines multi-source data in geographic information systems with machine-learning ground motion models for stable continental regions, worst-case seismic scenarios and high-resolution assessment of building vulnerability and of road blockage caused by collapses.
He graduated in Geology (2020) and completed an MSc in Geosciences, specialising in Geological Resources (2023), at the University of Minho, with a dissertation, also supervised by Amélia Paula Marinho Reis, on high-resolution geochemical mapping of the Preguiça and Vila Ruiva Pb-Zn mineralisations in the Ossa-Morena Zone. He has co-supervised a master's dissertation on ground motion modelling and an undergraduate research project on the seismic vulnerability of the municipality of Lisbon.
