Regis Pacheco Cassino Junior

Summary

Regis Pacheco Cassino Junior has been a student in the University of Minho PhD Programme in Geology – Geoconservation, Environmental Geology and Geological Resources since December 2023, in the field of Hydrology and Water Resources. He is supervised by Renato Henriques and by Tomás de Figueiredo, of the Mountain Research Centre (CIMO) of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, where he carries out his research.

His thesis, «Tools for identifying critical areas for water resource management actions based on the modelling of hydrological extremes: application to the Côa river basin, Portugal», uses the modelling of hydrological extremes to delimit the areas where water management actions are most needed.

He graduated in Environmental and Sanitary Engineering from the Federal University of Technology – Paraná (Brazil) and in Environmental Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (2023), where he also completed an MSc in Environmental Technology (2022), with a dissertation on the distribution of green areas and the reduction of design flows in the urban drainage of the city of Bragança. He was a research fellow at CIMO in the LandUnderPressure project (EEA Grants, 2022–2023), on combating desertification and increasing the resilience of the montado to climate change, and collaborated with the Mountain Research Collaborative Laboratory (Laboratório Colaborativo Montanhas de Investigação). In Brazil, he studied urban air quality in São Paulo and fish communities in streams.
