Summary

Renato Henriques is an Associate Professor at the Department of Earth Sciences, where he has taught since 1999, and an integrated member of the Institute of Earth Sciences (ICT). He is Director of the Department and of the BSc in Geology. He completed an MSc in Environmental Engineering (Geoenvironment) at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (1998) and received his PhD in Sciences (Geology) from the University of Minho (2007), with a thesis on the monitoring and vulnerability of the coastal zone of northwestern Portugal.

His work covers coastal dynamics and monitoring, photogrammetry and remote sensing with unmanned aerial vehicles, geographic information systems, ground-penetrating radar for archaeology, the development of oceanographic sensors and planetary geology.

He coordinated the preparation of the Caminha–Espinho Coastal Programme for the Portuguese Environment Agency (2014–2019) and the Municipal Climate Action Plan of Viana do Castelo (2023–2025). He takes part in projects such as CLIMAAX, ATLANTIDA II and MarUminho, the latter as co-principal investigator.
