Tamires Bertocco

Summary

Tamires Bertocco is a student in the Official PhD Programme in Agricultural and Forestry Research of the University of A Coruña (Spain), in which she has been enrolled since 2021, and carries out her research at the Mountain Research Centre (CIMO) of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, with an FCT doctoral grant (2024–2027). She is supervised by Manuel López-Vicente (University of Zaragoza) and Tomás de Figueiredo (Polytechnic Institute of Bragança) and, since 2024, co-supervised by Renato Henriques; her tutor at the University of A Coruña is Marcos Lado.

Her thesis, «Hydrological and sedimentological response in Spanish-Portuguese transboundary catchments at multiple spatial scales with presence of traditional water-meadows», studies the hydrological and sedimentological response of transboundary Portuguese-Spanish headwater catchments at several scales and the role of traditional water-meadows (lameiros) in sediment connectivity, including how they buffer the increase in sediment transport after recurrent wildfires. She uses connectivity indices, geographic information systems and multi-scale remote sensing.

She graduated in Environmental Engineering from the Federal University of Technology – Paraná (Brazil) and completed an MSc in Environmental Technology at the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (2021), on flood peak flows in lameiro catchments of Montesinho Natural Park. She was a research fellow at the University of Minho branch of the ICT, in the TERRAMATER project (2021–2022), and at CIMO, in the SOILING project (2022–2023).
