Summary

Teresa Valente is an Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Department of Earth Sciences and a researcher at the Institute of Earth Sciences (ICT). She graduated in Environmental Engineering from the University of Aveiro (1992), completed an MSc in Environmental Sciences (1997) and a PhD (2004) at the University of Minho, and obtained her Habilitation in Environmental Geology in 2016. Before joining the Department in 1998, she worked in environmental consultancy and taught at Universidade Moderna.

Her research covers environmental geochemistry, acid mine drainage and mine waters, environmental monitoring and the rehabilitation of contaminated areas, in collaborative projects with European and South American partners.

She was Director of the Department of Earth Sciences and coordinated the BSc in Environmental Sciences and the MSc in Environmental Sciences and Technologies. She directs the PhD Programme in Geology, coordinates an ICT group on environmental monitoring and remediation, and is an associate editor of Mine Water and the Environment.
